Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is predicting a bright future for young midfielder Darren Fletcher.
Fletcher impressed in United's 2-0 Champions League defeat at the hands of Deportivo La Coruna last night, after making his debut against Basel last week. And while Ferguson feels that Fletcher still has to mature physically, the United boss still feels that the young Scot is a huge prospect.
Ferguson said "Darren took a bit of time to get going but you can see there is a lot of quality there. He has lovely balance but what we hope with Darren is that he can become a bit stronger."
"He is still growing but until he fully grows he won't get the physical part right. That is going to take two years but there is marvellous potential there."
Ferguson's praise was not just reserved for Fletcher, as he hailed the performance of all the youngster's who were thrown in at the deep end against Deportivo. "It is difficult to get youngsters to play with intensity because the haven't learned that part of the game yet," he said.
"I was just looking for them to enjoy it. I wanted them to show they had a good temperament and to show principles of being a Manchester United player by wanting the ball. In the main they achieved that. We were caught on the back foot with the second goal because we had changed our defensive formation but we recovered from that and finished with a bit of honour," Ferguson added.
