Liverpool fine Diouf over Parkhead incident

Liverpool today fined El Hadji Diouf two weeks' wages, after he apparently spat at Celtic fans during last night's 1-1 UEFA Cup draw at Parkhead. The Senegal striker could be charged by police over the incident and UEFA have announced they will be reviewing the match video.

The Senegal World Cup star got tangled up with some of the Celtic fans while going to retrieve the ball late in the second half. After being slapped on the back of the head by one of the fans, he appeared to retaliate by spitting.

If there is a case to answer, a disciplinary committee hearing will be held before next Thursday's second leg at Anfield. Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier condemned his player but added: "...I am not going to make excuses for him but the boy is young and is devastated by what has happened."
