Celtic boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed that new contract talks have re-opened with Stilian Petrov. Earlier in the season, Petrov publicly revealed his dissatisfaction with Celtic's offer of a new deal and O'Neill promptly dropped the player.
The Bulgarian international then indicated he would simply see out his current contract, even though it does not expire until 2005. However, Petrov, who scored in the 3-1 UEFA Cup win on Thursday against Stuttgart, is a valuable player to Celtic so O'Neill is prepared to start again.
"When you see performances like that obviously it would be good news for Celtic to get Stilian signed up. He is making a big impact and is deserving of the contract we are talking about with him. I have left a message with his agent that we will sort this out and resolve his future," he explained.
