Manchester City have dropped a threat of legal action against Roy Keane over the horror tackle on Alf Inge Haaland at Old Trafford in April 2001. Keane admitted in his recent autobiography that the wildly over-the-top tackle on the Norwegian in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford was motivated by a desire for revenge for a previous clash between the two players.
The admission earned Keane a five-match ban and an unprecedented fine of 150,000 pounds from the Football Association at the start of this season.
City said at the time they were considering legal action but they have now concluded they have little chance of success and decided not to pursue the matter because the injuries which are now threatening Haaland's career are not related to the leg which Keane made contact with.
