Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr was in Manchester today to hold talks with Roy Keane about a possible return to the international fold. Kerr met with the Manchester United midfielder in a hotel in the city, and it is believed that he offered Keane a generous deal to lure him back into the set-up. The deal is expected to have involved an agreement whereby Keane does not have to turn-up for or play in friendly matches.
Keane is not expected to give an immediate response to Kerr, but an answer is expected before the end of the month.
Former Irish skipper Keane was sent home before the start of the World Cup last summer following a row with Kerr's predecessor Mick McCarthy. The Cork man has said he would consider his international future, once a new Irish manager was appointed.
