Barthez out of Birmingham City clash

Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez will miss Tuesday's Premier League game at Birmingham after being injured during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

Barthez was carried off the pitch following an aerial collision with Southampton's Michael Svensson. United’s website reported that Barthez had treatment on his hip and thigh but is also likely to miss next weekend's derby game against Manchester City.

Southampton keeper Antti Niemi also came off injured shortly before full time after colliding with Ruud van Nistelrooy. “Hopefully it's just a bad kick,” said manager Gordon Strachan.
