Shamrock Rovers snatch Intertoto Cup place

Shamrock Rovers snatched a place in the Intertoto Cup after a late spot-kick from Trevor Molloy earned them a 3-2 win over Longford Town at Richmond Park. Stephen Grant and Shane Robinson put Rovers 2-0 up, but goals from Eric Lavine and Adrian Murphy levelled matters before Molloy struck home from the spot in injury time.

Cork City were beaten 1-0 by UCD at Turners' Cross with the only goal of the game coming from Alan Gallen. Champions Bohemians could only draw their final game of the season, ending all square at 2-2 against Derry City. A penalty from Simon Webb put Bohs in front but goals from Sean Friars and Gary Beckett saw Derry take the lead, before Jason McGuinness rescued a point for the home side. Drogheda's match against St Patrick's Athletic at O2 Park finished scoreless.

In the eircom First Division, Kilkenny City drew 2-2 with Dundalk at Buckley Park. Paul Byrne and Aidan O'Keefe scored for the Cats while Cormac Malone and David Ward netted for Dundalk. Waterford Utd won 1-0 against Limerick FC at the RSC with Lee Byrne scoring the only goal of the game.

Monaghan United went down 4-0 to Kildare County at Century Homes Park with Phillip Gorman, Shay Zellor, Keith O'Connor and John Ryan all finding the scoresheet. Two goals from Willie Bruton gave Cobh Ramblers a 2-1 win over Galway Utd at St Colemans' Pk after Derek O'Brien had given Galway the lead. Finn Harps overcame Sligo Rovers 3-1 at Finn Park thanks to two goals from Damian Whitehead and one from Kevin McHugh. Gareth Gorman scored for Sligo. Dublin City beat Athlone 2-1 at Morton Stadium.
