Gerrard faces FA hearing over Naysmith 'tackle'

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard faces a Football Association disciplinary hearing on Monday, February 3 following his two-footed lunge at Everton's Gary Naysmith during the Merseyside derby match at Anfield on December 22. Gerrard has denied a charge of violent conduct relating to the incident, but the FA have called a hearing at an as yet unconfirmed venue.

Gerrard made a reckless two-footed lunge at the Scottish international with three minutes remaining as the Everton full-back looked to clear the ball down the left touchline. The game threatened to boil over as Naysmith writhed in agony on the floor and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, booked himself just three minutes earlier for a late challenge on Gerrard, squared up to the England midfielder and other players from both sides got involved.

Gerrard escaped without punishment by referee Graham Poll but the FA requested the match video to view the incident themselves.
