Gunners swoop for Brazilian goalkeeper

Arsenal are set to sign Brazilian World Cup goalkeeper Marcos from Brazilian club Palmeiras after the two sides agreed a fee, believed to be £2.5million, for his services. The Brazilian ace is expected to fly to London for talks with the Premiership Champions tomorrow.

An Arsenal spokesperson refused to comment on the possible transfer, insisting that it is club policy not to reveal details of any dealings until they were finalised, however the deal is expected to be concluded by the end of the week.

Marcos was an ever-present in the Brazilian side which won his country's fifth World Cup title in the summer and impressed many with his acrobatic style.

Should Marcos sign with the Gunners, it is unlikely that he will feature with Highbury club until the end of the current season, as he is seen as a long-term replacement to David Seaman, who is widely expected to retire at the end of this season.
