Gerrard denies violent conduct charge

Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard has formally denied a charge of violent conduct over his challenge on Everton's Gary Naysmith in the Merseyside derby on December 22.

The English FA confirmed today that a hearing would now take place on a date still to be decided.

Gerrard said he had never intended to hurt Naysmith after television replays showed him jumping two-footed into a challenge with the Everton defender during the nil-all draw at Anfield.
