Legendary manager Brian Clough is recovering after a liver transplant, it was reported today. The 67-year-old was said to be recuperating yesterday in a private clinic in England following the 10-hour operation.
Doctors were reported to have told the ex-Nottingham Forest and Derby manager that his liver had packed up following decades of heavy drinking. His son Nigel told a British newspaper: “Dad's had a liver transplant and he's doing OK.”
Clough led Forest to two European Cup triumphs during his career as a manager, which also saw him win the old Division One title with Derby County. As a player, he won two England caps and scored 251 goals in 274 games as a striker for Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
