Kilkenny claim third win of season

Kilkenny City claimed only their third league win of the season with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Limerick FC at Jackman Park this afternoon. In the day's only domestic fixture, the First Division's bottom club took the lead through Brendan Sweeney on 27 minutes.

Further second-half goals from Alan O'Connor on 73 minutes and Aidan O'Keefe six minutes later put the visitors firmly in control, and despite Colm Heffernan's consolation strike ten minutes from time, City held on for a rare, but deserved, win.

The win does not affect Kilkenny's position at the foot of the table, and they will have to apply to the league for re-election.
