Birmingham City are close to signing Bratislava striker Robert Vittek after the 20-year-old impressed in a trial earlier this month. He has scored 12 goals for Slovan this season and spent a week's trial with Blues earlier this month and is set to return to England tomorrow after the two clubs thrashed out a deal.
"We discussed Birmingham City's offer about the transfer of Robert Vittek in our board meeting yesterday," Slovan president Viliam Fischer told www.futbalsfz.sk. "Vittek will have a medical and we will announce the details of our negotiations with Birmingham soon."
Vittek will become Steve Bruce's fifth signing of the year if the move is successful, and he will join recent new signings Christophe Dugarry, Fernando Coly, Jamie Clapham and Stephen Clemence at St Andrews.
