Everton boss Moyes blocks Rooney England call

Everton boss David Moyes will resist any attempts to send teenage striker Wayne Rooney away to take part in an England youth tournament. The 17-year-old has set the Barclaycard Premiership alight this season with some brilliant goals and has been tipped as a future regular in the England team.

It is understood the English FA wanted the frontman for England's World Under-20 Championship squad to travel to the United Arab Emirates at the end of March. However, Moyes is unhappy with the request, which would deprive him of his prized asset for around a month at a crucial time of the season. "It's unfair of the FA to expect players who play regularly for their clubs to be taken away midway through their season," he said.
