Midfielder Lee Bowyer has completed his move from Leeds United to Premiership strugglers West Ham. The 26-year-old has signed a six-month deal at Upton Park and is set to make his debut against Newcastle on Saturday.
It has been an eventful day for the midfielder as he he was banned for six matches in European competition earlier in the day following his stamp on Malaga's Gerardo. He appeared to stamp on Gerardo's head during the UEFA Cup third round defeat at Elland Road on December 12.
Bowyer was booked for fouling Gerardo moments before the incident but the referee, his assistants and the fourth official all missed the latter offence. However, the UEFA control and disciplinary body considered video evidence of the incident and deemed it 'an act of assault' and 'particularly dangerous'.
The 26-year-old has until midnight on Saturday to appeal against the suspension, which will remain in place should he complete his imminent move to Upton Park, or to any other club.
