The meeting of Waterford United and Monaghan United at the RSC was one of the few games not to fall foul of the weather in the Eircom League First Division tonight where a great 2-2 draw was played out. The visitors took the lead through Darren McKenna after 27 minutes, then John Lester doubled Monaghan's lead from the penalty spot just before half time.
Waterford fought back in the second half though and goals from Daryl Murphy and Vinney Sullivan ensured a share of the points. Both sides finished with 10 men after the dismissals of Wayne Russell and Gavin Maheady.
Elsewhere in Divison One, Cobh Ramblers' promotion hopes suffered a real setback when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Dublin City. Gary Sliney and a Derek McGrath brace accounted for the visitors' tally and Willie Bruton netted Cobh's reply all in the first 18 minutes.
The Eircom League Premier Division clash of Longford Town and Cork City was postponned until next Monday week because Flancare Park was frozen. The First Division games between Kildare County and Finn Harps, and the Sligo Rovers v Kilkennny City match were also postponed.
