Everton will be without Wayne Rooney for four matches after Saturday's FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury following the 17-year-old striker's latest yellow card. Rooney, who is clear to play in the third round tie, had already picked up a three-match ban for a lunging tackle on Birmingham City defender Steve Vickers on Boxing Day which earned him a red card.
But Wednesday's booking in their 2-2 draw with Manchester City was his fifth of the season and means the suspension is extended to a fourth match, the club confirmed on its website. The revelation of the Premiership this season, Rooney will now miss Everton's forthcoming games against Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers plus an FA Cup fourth round clash, assuming they win on Saturday.
Should they suffer an upset against Shrewsbury, Rooney would then miss the league match at home to Leeds United on February 1.
