Rangers stay top by one

There is still just one point separating Rangers and Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League after both sides registered 1-0 victories over Kilmarnock and Dunfermline respectively.

Alex McLeish's side bounced back from their shock defeat by Motherwell on St Stephen's Day to take all three points at Kilmarnock. Peter Lovenkrands was the hero for the Scottish Premier leaders when he netted midway through the first half.

Rangers had opportunities to extend their lead, most noticeably with just 13 minutes remaining when Ronald de Boer headed over the bar from just six yards. Michael Mols then struck the crossbar after being set up by Amoruso but one goal proved enough for the Ibrox outfit.

A solitary Henrik Larsson strike was also enough to keep Martin O'Neill's Celtic breathing heavily down the necks of their Glasgow rivals. Larsson grabbed his 29th goal of the campaign after 18 minutes when he clipped the ball past the advancing Derek Stillie after John Hartson and Chris Sutton flicked on a long kick-out by Magnus Hedman.

Hartson came close with less than twenty minutes to go but although Dunfermline almost snatched an equaliser three minutes later, Celtic held on for the win.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Hearts stay in third place after beating Dundee 2-1; Hibernian beat Aberdeen 2-0; Livingston defeated struggling Motherwell 1-0 while Partick Thistle and Dundee United finished all square at 0-0.
