Everton have rallied round young striker, Wayne Rooney, after he became the youngest player to be sent off in the Premiership during the St Stephen's day draw at Birmingham. Rooney earned a straight red card from referee, David Elleray, after a studs-up challenge on Blues central defender Steve Vickers, who needed eight stitches in his ankle and is out of action for a fortnight.
The 17-year-old Rooney now faces a three-match ban for violent conduct. But Everton boss David Moyes has defiantly insisted he won't be reigning in the aggressive side of England's brightest young prospect.
