Celtic have closed the gap on Rangers to just one point at the top of the Scottish Premier League after a 4-2 win over Hearts at Parkhead.
Martin O’Neill’s side were pushed hard by a determined Hearts outfit and actually fell behind after four minutes when Mark De Vries netted for the visitors. John Hartson then equalised for the Bhoys before hitting a second to give Celtic a slender lead at the break.
De Vries then levelled the match at 2-2 midway through the second half before Hartson completed his hat-trick after 68 minutes. Henrik Larsson netted a fourth for Celtic four minutes later to ensure maximum points for the Glasgow side.
Rangers were condemned to their first defeat of the season by bottom side Motherwell. Terry Butcher’s side gave Rangers the run-around for most of the game and were well worth the victory which came courtesy of Jamie McFadden in the 65th minute.
Elsewhere in Scotland, Aberdeen beat Dundee 2-1; Kilmarnock overcame Dunfermline 2-0; Hibernian drew 1-1 with Partick Thistle and Livingston beat Dundee United 3-0.
