Liverpool's influential midfield star John Arne Riise has escaped being called up for compulsory national service with the Norweigan Army early in 2003. Reports in today's Sun newspaper revealed that Riise was expected to report for duty on January 8 after a letter from his mother and agent Berit asking for his call-up to be postponed failed to reach the relevant authorities on time.
However, his club have now rectified the error with manager Gerard Houllier making a statment on the club's website to defuse any fears from fans that they will be without the Norweigan for the next 12 months.
""It has been sorted," Houllier told the club's official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv. "There was just an administrative error but the letter has now been sent and there's no problem. He won't be going anywhere."
