Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has backed his struggling team to lift themselves out of their current slump and get back to winning ways at home and abroad. The Reds take on Vitesse Arnhem in the UEFA Cup Third Round Second Leg tonight after winning just one point in five games in the Premiership.
Liverpool have now slipped to fourth in the table just one month after sitting top of the league, but Houllier believes his side can take a leaf out of Manchester United’s book and re-ignite their faltering season.
‘Manchester United had a difficult period about a month-and-a-half ago – now it is our turn. All I know is we will do our best to get out of it very quickly,’ said the French man, before refusing to consider a change in team tactics.
‘If you ask me whether I am going to change the system of play - no. I am not going to play a 3-5-2 because this is not my philosophy. I had to do that four years ago. The main thing is you trust your players, and I trust them. So we will get out of this period.'
