Fergie hails ‘fantastic’ van Nistelrooy

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on striker Ruud van Nistelrooy after the Dutchman’s double gave United a 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna in the Champions League last night.

Van Nistelrooy scored in each half last night to put United in firm control of Group D and take his personal tally for the season to 18.

‘He has played fantastic. He had been a real threat all night,’ said Ferguson, before going on to praise his side’s all-round performance.

‘It was a very good team performance. The attacking play was very good. First half we had to concentrate on the defending part, which we did quite well and in the second half we improved on that and I think that sealed the victory for us.

‘Obviously Ruud`s second goal made it easier for us, but it was a good performance and I am very pleased.’
