Batty consults lawyers over Ridsdale remarks

Leeds midfielder David Batty has sought legal advice over club chairman Peter Ridsdale’s comments that the former England international was no longer able to play top-flight football due to knee problems.

Ridsdale made the remarks at the club’s AGM last week, claiming manager Terry Venables made the assessment of Batty after watching videos of the player’s performances last season.

Batty, who has been out of favour at Leeds since the arrival of Terry Venables before the start of the current Premiership campaign, is said to have been angered by the comments and subsequently decided to consult his lawyers about possible legal action.

‘The situation at present is we saw our lawyers yesterday. They have recommended we don't make any formal statement until communication, via a letter from them to Leeds United, has been issued. That will be done by Friday, or Monday at the latest, and we will then await a formal response from Leeds,’ Batty’s agent Hayden Evans told the Press Association.
