Kenna forced to play through the pain barrier

Birmingham City's Jeff Kenna is being forced to play through the pain barrier because of the club's defensive injury crisis. Kenna has been suffering with an Achilles problem for the past month and Blues manager Steve Bruce has admitted that the Republic of Ireland international should be resting.

However, with Michael Johnson, club captain Steve Vickers, Martin Grainger and Damien Johnson all injured, and Darren Purse and Matt Sadler both battling to be fit for Saturday's trip to Chelsea, Bruce has no alternative but to play Kenna.

"Jeff has been playing through an Achilles problem for three or four weeks. Ideally, he needs two or three weeks' rest but that's just not possible at the moment He has been battling through for a while now and doing a really good job for the team. Hopefully, he'll be okay for the Chelsea game," he explained.
