Keane out until new year - reports

Roy Keane will be out of action for Manchester United until January, according to reports. The Sun reports that a specialist told Keane that he could miss most of the season if he rushes his comeback after a hip operation. It says that the Manchester United captain has been advised he should not start full training for at least another month, as any twisting could aggravate the injury.

Manager Alex Ferguson said on Sunday: "He isn't as far forward as we thought he would be. He is still a few weeks away. There is a long remedial period with this type of injury and he had done a lot of hard work, so we decided to give him a break last week. He needed a break because sometimes he can push himself a bit hard but he is back doing some good work again."

Ferguson had initially been hopeful that the former Republic of Ireland international would be fit enough to make an appearance against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on 13 November.
