Derry City have been given a major boost ahead of Sunday's Carlsberg FAI Cup final against Shamrock Rovers with the news that former Irish International David Kelly will be available to line out for The Candystripes. Kelly's participation had been in doubt because of his new role as assistant manager at English Second Division side Tranmere Rovers, but the striker has been given clearance to play in the final.
Meanwhile, Monaghan United secured their first win of the season by beating Dundalk 2-1 at Oriel Park in Thursday night's only domestic fixture. Stephen Arkins and John Lester put Monaghan two goals up inside 28 minutes, and despite a late strike from David Hoey in the 90th minute, United held on to take the three points for the first time this season. The win lifts them off the bottom of the eircom First Division, above Dublin City and Kilkenny City.
