Paolo di Canio scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to secure victory for West Ham over London rivals Fulham. Zat Knight gave away the spot kick with a rash two-footed lunge on Jermaine Defoe which saw the Fulham centre back deservedly sent off.
Defoe earlier had a goal harshly ruled out for offside, while di Canio, Joe Cole and Trevor Sinclair all wasted good chances for the Hammers.
