Birmingham captain Steve Vickers has suffered another injury setback just days after returning to action following a two-month lay-off. The 34-year-old was just back playing following a knee operation during the summer when he suffered a broken rib in a clash with West Brom's Sean Gregan during Saturday's draw at The Hawthorns.
X-rays revealed the extent of the problem and he now joins a growing list of injured players at the club. "It is very frustrating to say the least but the x-rays have confirmed what we feared, that is a break. It's impossible to say how long I'll be out for but it will be a matter of weeks. When I did the same injury at Middlesbrough I was out for six to eight weeks on that occasion," he said.
City are severely stretched in defence with Martin Grainger and Michael Johnson long-term casualties while makeshift left-back Damien Johnson and Kenny Cunningham are also sidelined. To make matters worse for manager Steve Bruce, Olivier Tebily is now facing suspension after being sent off against West Brom at the weekend.
