Speculation is rife today that senior Football Association of Ireland figures are considering a compensation package for Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy. However nothing is going to happen immediately as McCarthy is on holiday next week, where he will consider his own situation.
But it is suggested that the FAI will consider the cost of a settlement package with McCarthy, whose contract runs until 2004. Already the bookies are offering odds on his replacement with David O'Leary the favourite.
