Francis given vote of confidence

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan insists Trevor Francis will remain manager of the club despite cuts to his coaching staff. Jordan acted this week to cut spiralling costs at Selhurst Park by sacking his reserve coach and chief scout, as well as staff in the corporate department.

But he will stand by Francis despite his record of having lost more games than he has won since taking over from Steve Bruce last November. Jordan said: "I'm not happy that we're 17th in the league but I don't think the sensible reaction is to get rid of the manager. I've said in no uncertain terms to him I expect to be promoted. I've paid for a Premiership club. I want a Premiership club."

"But I feel we are not too far away and Trevor has made Palace very difficult beat - we are just not scoring enough goals," Jordan continued.
