Longford Town have tonight been deducted nine points following an emergency meeting of Eircom League's Board of control. The League claims that Longford were guilty of playing an improperly registered player-Avery John in three games.
The League argued that John did not receive International clearance to return to play in Ireland after he went on trial to Colchester during the summer. As a result of the decision-Longford slip to joint bottom of the table with UCD but they intend to appeal to the FAI.
