Charlton manager Alan Curbishley admitted after last night's humiliating Worthington Cup defeat to Third Division Oxford on penalties that he was embarrassed by the result. It has been a nightmare start to the season for the Addicks at The Valley as they have lost all five home Premiership matches so far and are second from bottom in the table. This latest home defeat at the hands of a club from three divisions below the Premiership has just added to that nightmare and the pressure is on the Charlton boss to turn things around and fast.
"It was an embarrassing night for us, on top of what has already happened here this season. If you have 30 attempts on goal and don't remotely look like scoring - and miss four penalties - you're going to be punished. We got ourselves in decent positions but were snatching at things. They deserved it because we couldn't score against them. It's not good enough for a Premiership side not to score," explained a bemused Curbishley.
