Talks between Manchester United and French club Rennes over the possiblity of Julien Escude moving to Old Trafford have stalled. Rennes told United officials that if they sell the defender, it would leave them with a serious selection crisis yet they have reportedly asked for a fortnight to consider the deal before making a final decision on the matter. Escude is currently valued at Stg£5m but he is an integral part of Rennes' defence and they believe the 22-year-old could benefit from another year in French football before a big-money move.
"Manchester have confirmed their interest in the player. But we are not interested in such a transfer as it is too late in the season and to find a suitable replacement would be difficult," admitted general manager Pierre Dreossi. "But we haven't decided on anything. We will reflect on the situation in the interests of everyone."
However, it seems the player himself is very interested in a move to the Premiership and Dreossi will have a significant task on his hands to persuade Escude against transferring to United. "I have done my time at Rennes. I can't pass up such an opportunity," he said.
