Newcastle winger Laurent Robert is to undergo an X-ray today to determine whether he has broken his back. The Frenchman, who joined the Magpies last summer, could be out for the season if his worst fears are realised, though it is not known by the club or the player when the injury first developed. He was forced to miss United's friendly against Wolves and an initial scan revealed vertebrae damage. At best, he is expected to be out until Christmas.
