Gazza's Washington stint cut short

Paul Gascoigne is once again looking for a new club after his proposed move to American outfit DC United tonight fell through. The 35-year-old former England star has spent the last week training with the Major League Soccer side but both parties have decided not to make the move permanent.

"After long and involved discussions and having thoroughly considered all matters regarding a permanent, long-term move to DC United and Major League Soccer, both United Head Coach Ray Hudson and Paul Gascoigne have mutually agreed not to pursue a contractual obligation for the remainder of the 2002 MLS season," United technical director Dave Kasper told the club's website.
