Carr impresses as Spurs lose to QPR

Republic of Ireland full back Stephen Carr seems to be well on his way back to full fitness after his latest comeback game for Tottenham Hotspur. Carr was the one bright spot for Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle after his side succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at Second Division QPR this afternoon.

The Spurs defender missed the whole of last season with a knee injury but he looked back to his best in a poor team performance his coach will want to forget. Carr's comeback stalled because of a groin problem he picked up during a rehabilitation programme, but he stood out today in what was only his third game back.

The 26-year-old showed that he is not far from full fitness after a second game in two days in the blazing heat, which will be good news for Irish manager Mick McCarthy ahead of the upcoming qualifiers for Euro 2004.
