Fairview shock City in FAI Cup - Round-up

Fairview Rangers produced the shock of the round with a stunning 4-1 victory over First Division Dublin City to advance to the third round of the Carlsberg FAI Cup. The Munster Senior League outfit from Limerick were well worth their win after taking the lead on 15 minutes with a penalty from Jason Purcell. However, their lead was shortlived as City hit back through Derek McGrath seven minutes later and that was how it remained until Paul Harmon edged Fairview in front after 65 minutes.

Barry Heffernan increased Rangers' lead when he found the net in the 73rd minute, and his brother Colm completed the scoring when he finished on the stroke of full-time to give the non-leaguers a convincing 4-1 win. Elsewhere, Premier Division Longford Town came from a goal down to beat Dublin's CIE Ranch 5-1. Peter Nolan gave the Junior side a surprise lead with a 5th minute penalty, but Town hit back with first-half goals from Darragh Sheridan, Sean Prunty and Alan Kirby. Eric Lavine and Patrick Mulvihill completed the rout with second-half strikes to ensure Longford's progress.

Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers overcame the stubborn challenge of Leinster Senior League side Greystones with a Rafael Cretaro goal proving decisive in a 1-0 victory at Bray's Carlisle Grounds. In the day's other fixture, a goal from Jason Kabia after 64 minutes gave Cobh Ramblers a narrow 1-0 victory over Malahide United at St Coleman's Park.
