Shelbourne put the disappointment of their midweek European exit behind them with an emphatic 8-0 Carlsberg FAI Cup victory over non-league Rockmount at Tolka Park. Richie Baker scored two first-half goals following Trevor Molloy's 18th minute opener as Shels took a 3-0 half-time lead, but second-half strikes from Ollie Cahill, Wes Houlihan, Stephen Geoghegan and Barry Prenderville consigned the Munster Senior League side to a thumping defeat. Their disappointing trip to the capital was rounded off by the sending-off of Pat Keane, younger brother of Manchester United's Roy, ten minutes from time.
Elsewhere, First Division Finn Harps overcame the spirited challenge of Cork non-league outfit Leeds with a late goal from Tom Mohan six minutes from time, while Monaghan United beat Midleton, also from Cork, by the same scoreline with Richie Parsons' 13th minute goal proving decisive.
