Arsenal are reported to be on the brink of agreeing a transfer for Brazilian international midfielder Gilberto Silva from Atletico Mineiro. The player's spokesman Paul Vilhena was quoted in the British media as saying that the 25-year-old midfielder was scheduled to arrive in London on Friday to discuss the terms of a possible 4.5 million pound ($7 million) move to Arsenal.
"Gilberto is happy with the prospect of playing in England," Vilhena said. "He just needs to tie up a few things with the contract."
Silva, who has played all his club soccer in Brazil, appeared in every game of his country's successful World Cup campaign in South Korea and Japan last month.
"We're expecting Gilberto's transfer to be completed swiftly," Athletico spokesman Caio Ziller added.
