Barcelona have agreed to release Brazilian world cup winner Rivaldo from his contract with the club. The news was announced on the Catalan club's website, and both sides are believed to the satisfied with the compromise.
Rivaldo joined Barcelona from La Coruna in 1997, helping the club to two Spanish titles in his first two seasons at the Nou Camp. His club form did dip last year – he was even dropped at one point during the season – but he appeared to be back to his best scoring five goals for Brazil in the world cup. There had been speculation linking the player with a move to Lazio earlier this summer, but there is no news this evening of an imminent transfer.
