Birmingham sign World Cup star

Birmingham City have completed the signing of World Cup star Aliou Cisse from Paris St Germain. The Senegal international arrived in England late last night with his agent to carry out negotiations with Blues boss Steve Bruce. He had already agreed to a four-year contract with the newly-promoted club but will undergo a medical and put pen to paper in the next 24 hours. The versatile Cisse, who can also play in defence, was close to signing for West Ham last season but that transfer broke down.

Although the rest of Birmingham's squad have reported back for pre-season training today, Cisse is expected to be granted an extended break due to his World Cup exertions.

Another newcomer at the Blues' training ground this morning was fellow new signing Robbie Savage who made the switch from Leicester City this summer. Bruce is also hoping to sign Republic of Ireland international Kenny Cunningham from Wimbledon in the next few days.
