Ipswich Town have rejected a £4.2 million bid for defender Titus Bramble from Newcastle United. Both clubs have remained quiet about the transfer but the Division One club admitted at the weekend that they had turned down an offer from another club for an unnamed player.
Magpies boss Bobby Robson has been keeping a recent eye on England Under-21 international Bramble, but has not shown his interest until now because the player required surgery on his Achilles injury. Robson is keen to strengthen his defence after failing to secure loan signing Sylvain Distin and needs another defender alongside Nikos Dabizas and Andy O'Brien.
Newcastle have already played in the transfer market this summer by snatching Portuguese midfield starlet Hugo Viana from beneath the noses of Liverpool and Celta Vigo. With the lure of European football among his bargaining tools, Robson is hopeful of adding further names to his shopping list before the summer is out.
