Germany progress with late winner

Germany have made it through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup thanks to an 88th minute goal from Oliver Neuville against Paraguay in what was by far and away the worst match of the finals so far. Neither side looked capable of taking control of this game and extra-time and penalties seemed to be on the cards until Neuville, only in the team after German manager Rudi Voller dropped Carsten Jancker from his starting line-up, arrived in the six-yard box to convert Bernd Schneider's excellent cross from the right flank with just two minutes remaining in normal time. To make matters worse for Paraguay, they were reduced to ten men in stoppage time when Roberto Acuna was sent off for striking a German player with his elbow.
