Birmingham City have had a £4.5million bid accepted by Paris St Germain for Senegal captain Aliou Cisse. The 26-year-old missed Senegal's 1-1 draw with Denmark yesterday through injury but could be back in action for the final group match with Uruguay on June 11.
The versatile player, who was involved in the opening day 1-0 defeat of champions France, can play in either defence or midfield. A Birmingham spokesman told the club's website, www.bcfc.com: "We can confirm newspaper reports that we are looking to sign Senegal's Aliou Cisse from Paris St Germain. A £4.5million fee has been agreed with PSG and we are currently in negotiations with the player himself. We are very hopeful that a deal will be completed once the World Cup finals have finished."
Birmingham failed in a bid to sign Italy Under-21 striker Massimo Maccarone from Empoli but now look set to add to the £2.5million capture of Wales midfielder Robbie Savage from Leicester City. The St Andrews club will play a pre-season friendly at home to Spanish side Alaves on August 10.
