Anelka joins Manchester City

France striker Nicolas Anelka has joined Manchester City from Paris St Germain, the newly-promoted English premier league club said on Thursday. The 23-year-old former Arsenal and Liverpool player finalised his move to Maine Road in a deal which sees City forward Alain Toure moving in the opposite direction.

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by City. "We have made a number of signings this summer but Sylvain Distin and Anelka are the two I am really excited about," City manager Kevin Keegan told the club's official website.

Defender Distin completed a four million pounds transfer from Paris St Germain last month. Anelka, who just missed out on a place in the French squad for the World Cup, finished last season on loan with English premier league runners-up Liverpool.

But when negotiations to make the move to Anfield permanent broke down last month, Keegan stepped in with his own bid. The manager also confirmed that Anelka would be his first choice forward when the new English season gets under way in August.
