Birmingham goalkeeper Nico Vaesen is hoping promotion to the Premiership will help his chances of being called up by Belgium. The 32-year-old produced a string of saves - including a crucial one to deny Phil Mulryne in the penalty shoot-out - to help his side defeat Norwich in the Division One play-off final on Sunday.
He told the club's official website: "It is a shame the World Cup is this year because if it was next year I might have had a chance of getting into the squad after a year in the Premiership. But the most important thing for me is to do well at Birmingham and then we'll see what happens after that."
