Newcastle's Kieron Dyer may sue over the tackle by Southampton's Tahar El Khalej which has destroyed his World Cup dream. Dyer was crudely hacked down by Khalej in Saturday's Premiership clash between the two sides and is now facing an extended period on the sidelines.
Dyer's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has indicated legal action may follow against Khalej and perhaps Southampton. "We have considered legal action, certainly against the player and possibly his club. We would like to take some action, but we shall have to be advised by the lawyers on how to quantify the damage.
"There is no doubt a player of Kieron's standing would lose out on sponsorship endorsements that might not be realised for another four years. A successful World Cup might have inspired a big bid from a top European club," the agent told the Daily Express newspaper.
