Burns denies Old Firm plans

Football League chief executive David Burns has categorically rejected reports they are about to invite Celtic and Rangers into Division One. He said, "It's absolute rubbish, we have a regular board meeting this Thursday. Celtic and Rangers are not on the agenda. If they are coming then they won't be coming into the Nationwide League."

It had been reported that Celtic and Rangers were to be invited to play in the Nationwide League next season following secret talks last week between Football League chief executive Keith Harris and representatives from both clubs. Reports claimed that the Old Firm pair would be invited to join the Nationwide League by a Football League club at a meeting of the League's executive committee on Thursday.
