Ecuador name World Cup squad

There were no surprises when Ecuador coach Hernan Gomez named his 23-man squad for the World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Southampton striker Agustin Delgado and Hibernian defender Ulises de la Cruz were both included.

The South American team will play a friendly in New York against Yugoslavia on May 8 before travelling to Europe where they will play friendlies against AC Milan on May 11 and Atletico de Madrid on May 14. Ecuador then travel to Tottori, Japan, where the team will be based during the first round of the World Cup.

Ecuador are in Group G with Italy, Croatia and Mexico.

Goalkeepers: Jose Cevallos, Geovanny Ibarra, Daniel Viteri;

Defenders: Ivan Hurtado, Augusto Poroso, Ulises de la Cruz, Raul Guerron, Geovanny Espinoza, Marlon Ayovi;

Midfielders: Edwin Tenorio, Alfonso Obregon, Edison Mendez, Cleber Chala, Alex Aguinaga, Juan Carlos Burbano, Wellington Sanchez, Luis Gomez, Walter Ayovi;

Forwards: Agustin Delgado, Carlos Tenorio, Ivan Kaviedes, Angel Fernandez, Nicolas Ascensio.
